Giveaway & Interview With Victoria Danann

Where did you grow up? Do you think your childhood impacts your writing?
Fort Worth, Texas. I was a child before the world was a mass of electronic distraction. I had no siblings. We didn't even have a TV until I was around twelve. There was a lot of fertile ground for developing and expanding imagination.

Growing up were you considered a “bookish person” ?

No. Although I did read when alone and was precocious.

Are you married, single? Children?

     Married. Four grown children.

Who do you read?

I tend to spend years exploring a genre. I spent my childhood on fairytales and classics, my teens on scifi, then spent a lot of adulthood (apart from formal education) on non-fiction: history, mythology, religious studies, parapsychology, etc. During that time, when I read fiction, it was usually Stephen King or Anne Rice.

What genres do you enjoy?

When I became enamored with paranormal romance - the result of reading A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole - I spent two years reading every PNR that had enjoyed any success so that I would know what had already been done. You can't create something unique without knowing what's out there.

Who is your all time favorite author and why?

I'm going to have to say it's a tie between Stephen King and Anne Rice.

Ebook or paperback?

I got one of the first generation Kindles. This was before Oprah found out about them and made them popular. Fell in love as soon as it was charged up. My only problem was the lack of lighting and that's no longer a problem. I used to take a backpack full of books on vacation. Now I can take hundreds of books on a device that weighs a pound.

How many books do you read a month?

     Probably eight or so.

What are you reading now?

Olivia Cunning's Sinners on Tour series.

What's your favorite way to relax and recharge?

     What is that exactly?

Guitar - still trying for a Santana sound.

Do you have a favorite quote?

Yes. "It's better to burn out than fade away." - Def Leppard, "Rock of Ages". This has been miscredited to Kurt Cobain, who stole it. It has also been miscredited it to Neil Young "Hey, Hey, My, My", but Neil Young said, "It's better to burn out than to fade away." The "to" makes all the difference.

Does it have a special meaning to you?

Yes. My spouse and I both had elderly mothers who were getting up every day to watch TV. That's when I decided I would rather burn out than fade away. I started a rock band. Within nine months we were playing to 35,000 people at Warrior Dash. So far I'm not either burning out or fading away.

Where do you get your story ideas from?  Does your environment, mood play a part in what you write?

I never know how to answer that one. They're just there.

How long have you been writing?

Since I was eight-years-old, but I didn't publish until I was old enough to be sure I had something to say.

Do you have a writing “ritual”?  Where, music, etc.  If you use music can you share a few of the titles so we may check them out.

Way too sensitive to stimulus - hunter in a farmer's world. I couldn't begin to write if music was playing. All I need is quiet, time, and a keyboard.

How do you do your research?  Ahead of time or do you “drop ship” it as needed.

One of the benefits to waiting until you're older to write is that the research was acquired through living.

Do you set daily or weekly writing goals? What are they word count? Chapters?

I own 7th House Publishing, write and illustrate Seasons of the Witch, and manage Houston's top party band. I write when I can.

Do you get a chance to write every day? If so do you prefer to write during the day or at night?

I do not get a chance to write every day. I can write anytime except when sleepy.

What do you hope your Books bring to readers?

Entertainment and an out-of-the-body experience. Judging by feedback, I'm accomplishing that goal and nothing could be more thrilling.

Where do you see yourself in your career in 5 years, 10?

Five years = fifteen more books. Ten years = thirty more books.

Would you like to tell us what you're working on now?

The fourth installment in my saga, The Order of the Black Swan, is entitled Moonlight: The Big Bad Wolf, and it will release in late spring.

What advice would you give to unpublished authors?

If you're sure you have a book that's as good or better than anything else out there, go Indie, and publish yourself.

Favorite color?

Favorite food?

brownie with cafe mocha ice cream smothered in chocolate sauce and served with coffee (less is never more)

Favorite time of year and why?

Spring, because we have a brief period of respite when there are no leaves falling in the pool

3 things you want us to know but we did not cover above!

Reading my series in order is critical which is why I've made the first book, My Familiar Stranger, available for FREE everywhere e-books are sold. Let me add that it was also nominated for Best Paranormal Romance of 2012 by Reviewers' Choice awards.

Where can readers find your books?

The first three books are available on Amazon. For readers who don't have Kindle, the first three books are available as a compilation, The Order of the Black Swan COLLECTED TALES, Books 1-3, for the same price as the single titles combined.

A fun fact that readers wouldn't know about you.

My spouse and I worked for an airline when we were young. We got free airfare and deep discounts on hotel, car, etc. Consequently I got to do a lot of traveling. All the places and things I describe in the books are recounted from experience.

How can readers learn more about you?

Minutes ahead of inevitable assassination, Elora Laiken is forcibly transported to an alternate dimension similar, but not identical, to her own. She is stranded. Alone. Far from home. A stranger in a "strangish" land. Of course a girl could suffer worse problems than having gorgeous suitors. Perhaps more importantly, in the midst of an epidemic of vampire related abductions, can she stay alive long enough to choose between an honor debt, true love, or the breathlessness of single-minded passion?

My Familiar Stranger is a full length, stand-alone, Paranormal/Fantasy Romance novel that also sets up the foundation for the Black Swan series. It is loved by fans of paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and urban fantasy.
