 Psssst.  Everyone else too!

There is nothing like a convention to get your blood moving.  We are about 3 weeks out from ARCHON, St. Louis’s own Sci-Fi fantasy convention.  Those that go to conventions know how much fun they can be, and how exhausting they can be. If you have never been to Con before, it’s important to remember the following things when attending a convention:   

a) hydration;
b) periodic standing, sitting and stretching;
c) getting fresh air.

Who am I may you ask, that I would make the following suggestions?  I am Alexx, a Blogger of all things books and author related. I am a writer, yet to be published anywhere but on the blogosphere and a few book covers. I am also a massage therapist with a medical education background.  I am mentioning them because some of these things have happened to me. I made some of those corrections at the much larger convention I was at in June/July in Louisville, and it helped.  Was I tired at the end of the day?  Yes.  But I was able to get up and continue to have a great time with the friends we met. 

Day one of Fandomfest in Louisville, KY, I learned that there are a few very important things you need to do to prevent getting wiped out during and after it is over.  Many of the panelists called it “con crud”.  Some even suggested that it might cause cold or flu like symptoms because of the nonstop atmosphere of Cons. 

First of all, it does not mean you can’t have fun.  It doesn’t mean you can’t “party till dawn” or watch the midnight showing of some obscure “B” horror movie.  It simply means that you need to make sure you are hydrated.  By hydrated I mean water, not caffeinated beverages, or alcoholic beverages.  I mean water or juice.  Nothing more. Nothing less.

There are many things going on at the cons.  This goes for everyone no matter the reason or the programming that you are there for.  Gaming, Anime, Books, Art, it really doesn’t matter.   If you are a gamer who tends to sit for hours without really moving because you are into what ever game you are playing-- STAND UP!  Simply moving for a few minutes to stretch your legs and get your circulation going plus staying hydrated can prevent things like leg cramps. 

If you are standing a lot, sit!  Take a load off for a few minutes.  Your body will thank you.  Either position, standing or sitting, for too long can cause problems, for example standing with your knees locked for extended periods of time has been known to cause fainting, it can also cause things like leg cramps and charlie horses. Stretching helps as well, and it can help increase circulation. 

If you feel groggy, instead of drinking that energy drink, soda, or coffee, drink water and step outside for some fresh air, and walk around for a few minutes.  Remembering that your health is important as well as having fun is a good thing.

Cons are fun.  Archon is awesome as it encompasses so many different things.  By all means let’s all have an amazing time!  See the costumes, watch the movies, talk to the authors, get books signed, have a great time with old friends and make new ones.  Hubby and I are trying to get on a few panels, not sure yet what is going to happen.  But I will tell you one thing ARCHON is once again gonna be an awesome event!
